The world's first blogging platform built entirely on-chain, and for the new web.
This documentation provides easy access to all of the information you may need inside Nuance, from registration to article writing, social interactions to Limited Editions.
Nuance is the world's first publishing platform powered entirely by blockchain technology. Nuance offers writers the opportunity to govern the platform upon which they create content. Minimizing platform risk and empowering creators like never before.
By harnessing the power of blockchain, Nuance applies the benefits of Web 3 to a Medium-style content hosting platform. This includes anonymity, self-sovereignty, censorship resistance, community governance, and tokenization. Ensuring a decentralized and secure environment for writers and readers alike.
Much like DeFi has revolutionized banking, Nuance is reshaping the world of content creation by allowing writers to establish a direct financial relationship with their readers, eliminating middleman. At its core, Nuance operates on the Internet Computer Protocol (ICP) blockchain, ensuring tamper-proof security and placing the control of data back into the hands of its users.
Through community governance and ownership, Nuance minimizes platform risk, creating a space where the community is in control. This decentralized approach goes beyond traditional content creation platforms, providing writers with a direct avenue to share their ideas and perspectives globally, free from the constraints of established web 2 alternatives. In essence, Nuance is not just a platform; it's a community-driven movement that democratizes blogging and content creation, fostering a more diverse and inclusive online media landscape. Welcome to Nuance, where your voice matters, and the conversation never ends.
Are you short on time? Take the shortcuts to access the fundamentals.
To join the community and give your feedback, you can follow us on X (Formerly twitter), and join our OpenChat and Discord channels.
If you registered using Internet Identity, Google NFID, Stoic Wallet, or Bitfinity Wallet, clicking on the corresponding button in the login panel on the home page will take you directly to the login flow. Clicking Other options will display all available login methods.
For example, if you registered with Internet Identity, the flow will verify your user identity and log you in.
NFID login flow will look like this:
You can use the Search Bar feature to easily find articles, people, Limited Editions and topics. To access the search bar, just click on the articles tab on the home page. You don't need to register or log in to use this feature.
Your search results will be categorized as Articles, People, Limited Editions and All for easy access. You can browse the sorting options from the dropdown menu on the right of the screen.
Searching with hashtags is useful when you want to search on spesific topic. For example, searching technology with hashtag will allow you to find and follow this topic.
In keeping with the ethos of decentralized governance, an SNS-based DAO is controlling Nuance via a utility token.
DAO tokens are distributed as follows:
30% is allocated directly to the Aikin Development Team. These vest on a 25-month schedule. Upon launch, 1/25th is minted directly into Aikin’s wallet, with an additional 1/25th unlocking every month for the following 24 months. This provides security for future development and a remuneration pathway for the seed investors. It also ensures that Aikin has a voice in governance without giving them total control of the DAO.
30% is sold to the community as part of the SNS launch. This enables immediate participation in platform governance. These are distributed immediately upon completion of the SNS sale, giving the community vastly more control over the Nuance DAO than the Aikin development team.
The remaining 40% is distributed via faucet to reader accounts. Each reader account can have its balance topped up to 50 tokens on a weekly basis. These tokens are not fully featured—they are restricted. They can only be used to tip writers or purchase premium content. Once a writer is paid with a restricted token, the token can be freely transferred or used in governance.
The fee structure is governed by the community through the DAO, and changes may occur over time via successful proposals.
A Simple System for Supporting Writers and Controlling a DAO
Payments
Payments are split in several ways:
10% is taken as a development fee and placed in the Nuance DAO (more on this below). A proportion of the remaining 90% goes to the writer.
If the writer is publishing through a third-party property that takes advantage of our publication feature, the publication may take a fee in return for the promotion they provide.
NFT articles will have residual fees when traded on marketplaces.
NB: If the writer is publishing through their own handle and third-party property they receive 90%.
In summary:
Nuance enables readers to pay writers. A small fee is charged by the Nuance DAO to pay for research and development. The faucet system gives readers tokens to play with and creates an early economic base to support writers.

Nuance community have three goals which have guided the feature prioritisation to date:
Fairest paid content creators on the internet
Most trusted platform for long-form content
Best UX for both writers and readers
The roadmap will consist of the features that will help Nuance achieve these goals.
All community members are welcome to submit ideas make proposals, any team can get funding to build and ship a feature, and it's up to the community to decide which features are built and who builds them, ensuring a truly collaborative, democratic and decentralized development process.
Nuance backlog currently has the following potential features grouped by goal:
Personal articles are content written and shared by the author independently of any Limited Edition. Unlike Limited Edition articles, personal articles have no relationship between the author and a Limited Edition; the material is totally at the author's discretion.
Personal articles allow writers to freely share their thoughts, feelings, experiences, and knowledge. Authors control the structure and content of their articles and are free to change them at any time. This liberating setting makes personal articles an invaluable instrument for creative expression and personal development.
You will see the blog feed just below the search bar. This is the area where published articles are shown to you. You can use the tabs between the feed and search bar to change the feed options.
The dropdown menu on the right will help you filter the time range. This menu is only active in the Popular tab. How to access your personal articles is explained later in the wiki.
The Writers tab lists articles from authors you follow. This is the most convenient option to follow the content of your favorite authors.
The Topics tab allows you to easily access articles published on the topics you follow.
The New tab allows you to access recently published articles by sorting them from newest to oldest.
The Popular tab allows you to review the most applauded and trending articles. When you click on the Popular tab, the dropdown menu will be active on the right side of the screen, allowing you to filter the time range. In this way, you can sort popular articles daily, weekly, monthly or all time.
Get connected with people, stay informed about articles, and always be in the loop with the notification system.
Notifications will keep you updated on comments and replies, applause recieved, new followers, new articles from authors or topics you follow, new subscribers, and sold premium articles.
The bell icon in the upper right corner will notify you if there is a new notification. Just click on the icon to see details about your notifications.
You can change your notification preferences for comments and replies, applause received, topics and authors you follow, new followers and premium articles by clicking the settings icon in the notification panel.
There are many ways to edit an article after it has been published.

Support content creators and contribute to the community with Faucet, all without worrying about your wallet.
The Faucet system allows you to claim 50 NUA Tokens once a week. Tokens claimed with Faucet are accepted as "Restricted NUA". You can only tip other writers or susbscribe their content with your restricted tokens.
The system notifies users with a notification when there are tokens available for claim. To claim your free Nua, you need to go to your wallet page by clicking on the Request Free Nua button in the notification or by clicking on Profile Icon > Wallet.
You can make your refill request by using the Request Free NUA button on your wallet page.
You are allowed to request free NUA up until a total of 50 Free NUA in your wallet. These Free NUA tokens first need to be ‘spent’ on the Nuance platform like applauding or subscribing before you can trade them. They will be added to your wallet immediately.
Disclaimer: Please be aware that the usage of the faucet system is subject to legal regulations regarding cryptocurrencies and digital assets in your respective jurisdiction. It is your responsibility to understand and comply with local laws before engaging with the faucet system to claim or use tokens.
With the Applaud feature, you can tip and support the authors you like - just like on Medium. With Nuance, applause is not free (you have to "put your money where your mouth is"). When you applaud an article you transfer tokens from your wallet to the writer's wallet. Let's explore.
Disclaimer: Please be aware that the usage of the tipping system is subject to legal regulations regarding cryptocurrencies and digital assets in your respective jurisdiction. It is your responsibility to understand and comply with local laws before engaging with the tipping system and claim or use tokens.
As a reader, you have the opportunity to directly support the content creators whose work you value and appreciate. By doing so, you become part of a unique community of like-minded individuals who share your interests and passions. This means you not only get to enjoy high-quality content, but you also contribute to the sustainability and growth of your favorite writers.
As a writer, subscription allows you to make your content exclusive to members, providing you with a direct medium to reach your audience. You can offer your subscribers the flexibility to choose from various subscription plans such as weekly, monthly, annual, or even lifetime memberships. This variety in subscription options ensures that you can cater to a broad range of audience preferences and financial capacities.
The primary goal of these subscriptions is to foster a deeper connection between content creators and their readers. When readers subscribe, they are not just paying for content; they are investing in a relationship with the creators. This relationship benefits both parties as content creators receive the support necessary to continue producing high-quality work, and readers gain access to exclusive content and a community that resonates with their own interests and values.

Follow writers or topics to control your homepage.
When logged in, you have four tabs on your home page:
Writers - Writers you follow
Topics - Topics you follow
Popular - The most popular articles (applause x views)
New - The newest articles
To follow a writer you need to click on their handle @handle and then click the Follow button.
Alternatively, you can use the follow button under the article page.
To follow topics, simply click on the tag at the bottom of the page. This will automatically search for the tag you clicked in the search bar and display the results. Click Follow the tag to follow. Alternatively, you can search for other topics by using hashtags (#) in the search bar.
Creating a members-only article is almost the same as creating a regular article. The main difference lies in configuring access settings to restrict the article to members only.
After creating your article, you can make your content members-only by clicking on the ACCESS dropbox on the left panel.
After selecting the membership option, click the Publish button to finalize your article. This action will ensure that your content is available exclusively to members only.
Premium Articles allow writers within a Publication to create NFT-gated articles.
If writers so desire, a paywall feature will be made available for them to use. Nuance will enable writers to mint articles as NFTs. These will be sold through Nuance initially and then traded on popular marketplaces. This provides a unique difference to the paywall approach: Imagine a project you follow makes a major transformative announcement or author you follow writes a unique story. They may post this as a Premium article (NFT), enabling readers to both support the project and own a piece of news.
In a nutshell, a writer can create a cryptographically secure limited edition article where there can never be any more copies, can never be edited and never be taken down.
When a writer within a publication publishes an article, they can choose to publish it as a Premium Article. This creates an NFT-gated paywall for the article. To preserve the state of the NFT an article published as Premium cannot be edited.
When publishing as a Premium Article the volume and price of the NFT need to be specified. This is explained on next section.
When a reader navigates to the Premium Article they will encounter a paywall and can choose to buy the NFT to gain access to the article.
The NFT is free to be sold on the secondary market. Only wallets containing the NFT will be able to access the corresponding article.
Disclaimer: Please be aware that the usage of the premium article (NFT article) system is subject to legal regulations regarding cryptocurrencies and digital assets in your respective jurisdiction. It is your responsibility to understand and comply with local laws before engaging with the premium article (NFT article) system.
To see and manage subscriptions, you can navigate to your profile and locate the Subscriptions under the Activity dropdown on the left panel of your profile page. This allows for access and management of all your subscriptions.
There are two tabs in the subscription section: Active and Expired.
On the Active tab, you can find and manage your ongoing subscriptions. The Expired tab allows you to view your past subscriptions, providing a record of services you previously subscribed to.
To cancel a subscription, go to the Active tab and find the subscription you want to cancel. Click the meatball menu next to it, then choose Cancel subscription.
A confirmation screen will appear after you click Cancel subscription. Pressing the Stop subscription button will finalize the process, and you will be unsubscribed from the publcation or user.
Scheduled posts is a feature that allows you to save time and speed up your workflow. It allows you to automatically publish the content you have prepared at a specific date and time.
After preparing your content, simply click on PUBLISH MOMENT from the panel on the left of the article creation screen and select the date and time you want. Your article will be automatically published on the date and time you enter.
You can respond not only to articles but also to other user comments. For this, you can use the Reply button below the user comment. You can also edit your previous comments from this panel and give Thumbs up and Thumbs down to other user responses.
Nuance Limited Editions redefine the content creation landscape, providing brands with a direct avenue to connect with their readers. Offering a personalized landing page, custom styling, and a groundbreaking feature, Nuance Limited Editions empower brands to curate a unique reader experience. This innovative approach, coupled with tailored roles such as Writers and Editors, and permissions, positions Nuance Limited Editions as a dynamic and user-friendly platform for content creators.
Limited Editions emphasizes the importance of private communities, where content can be exclusively accessed within a curated circle. This model supports the creation of NFT articles, offering memorabilia, tickets, course content, art, and more. By limiting access to community members, Limited Editions can cultivate deeper engagement and provide unique, value-added experiences that resonate deeply with their audience.
Limited Editionarticles are pieces written by authors on behalf of a publication and must be authorized by the publication's editors before being published. Unlike personal articles, they can be the product of teamwork.
Publishers can manage articles and contributors. Limited Editions have two levels of contributors:
Editors who can write, edit, and publish. Editors have two roles: managing articles and Limited Edition (e.g., reviewing and approving articles for Limited Edition and managing the Limited Edition by editing font, color, avatar, banner or other customization options ) and managing contributors (e.g., adding new writers to your Limited Edition).
Writers who can write and submit for approval to an editor.
To add new contributors to your Limited Edition, simply click on the Edit Limited Edition button:
Enter the user handle in the Editors or Writers section at the bottom of the Limited Edition customization page, and then click on the save button:
Other information you should consider:
You can have more than one Limited Edition
Limited Edition handle cannot be changed
Limited Edition title can be changed
To see your Membership Subscription options, you can go to your profile page by clicking on the Profile Icon > My Profile and click on the Edit Profile button.
At the bottom of your profile editing page, you will see the panel with Membership Subscription settings. With the toggle-bar, you can activate any or all of the weekly, monthly, annual or lifetime options and set a price.
After confirming your preferences, the option to publish your content as members-only will be active on the article creation screen.
Premium Articles are currently available only for Limited Editions.
Premium Article creation flow is similar to standard article creation flow. After entering your title, introduction, body, and tags, select which Limited Edition you want to continue with from the left panel, then click the Publish and Mint option and press the Publish as Premium button.
After you press the button, you must enter the required information in the pop-up window for minting the article.
You can continue your minting process after entering how many keys you want to produce and the price you want for each key in the relevant fields.
The amount of editors who have access to the Limited Edition are automatically given a key. You cannot mint fewer articles than the number of editors in your Limited Edition. Once you publish your Premium Article, it cannot be edited or unpublished.

Limited Editions have two levels of contributors:
Editor (can write and publish)
Writer (can write and submit for approval to an editor)
To write an article as a writer within a publication you create an article as usual. On the left-hand side of the screen, you have a Location drop-down where you can select either your own handle or the handle of a publisher.
When submit to Limited Edition, the article is submitted to the editor and the article is no longer available for you to edit.
If you are an editor, after creating the article, you can save it as a draft, select a category, and publish the article directly.
You can subscribe to view Members only articles and gain access to exclusive content from various authors and Limited Editions. By becoming a member, you'll receive insightful articles, in-depth analyses, and unique perspectives that are not available non members.
When you encounter any members-only article, the subscription panel opens automatically.
You can also click on the Limited Edition or writer's name to access their profile or Limited Edition page, where a subscribe button will be visible if there are any available membership options. This allows you to easily explore and support your favorite authors and Limited Editions.
After choosing a membership option -such as weekly, monthly, annually, or lifetime- and subscribing, all members-only content will become available.
On the My articles page, you can find your drafts, the articles you have published so far, or the articles you have sent for review if you are writing for a Limited Edition.
You can click My articles on the Navigation Menu, click My articles on your profile page, or click x articles published below your profile picture on the home page to access your articles.
You may view your articles in various statuses using the My Articles tabs on the My Articles page. For example, the Drafts tab displays articles you have saved to work on but have not yet published, while the All tab lists all of your articles regardless of publication status.
First you need to request a publication to be created. Do this by asking us on our Discord or OpenChat. You will need to provide:
Your preferred Limited Edition handle (OneWord)
Your preferred Limited Edition title
A Nuance handle for an existing user (to be the editor (admin) of the publication)
After your Limited Edition is created, you can start customizing your Limited Edition by clicking the Edit Limited Edition button. Additionally, you can also specify a subtitle for your publication on this page. All customizations you can make on your publication are covered in the next section.
Commenting on articles is an effective and fun way to interact with the community and share your thoughts on the content. To comment, you can use the comment panel at the bottom of the page where the article is located.
To applaud the article, you can click the applause button on the right of the page (at the bottom of the page if you are on mobile). This will open the tipping panel for you.
From this panel, you can see your NUA, ICP or ckBTC balances in your wallet and tip with these tokens. After entering how many applause you want to give, you can choose the type of Token you want to use. When you tick the General Policy box and click the Applaud button, tokens will be transferred to the writer's wallet.
You can click the Profile Icon > My Wallet to access your wallet and manage your token balances.
When an article is published as a Premium Article, AKA an Article NFT, and sold for the first time the funds from the sale are split as follows (roughly):
1% to the marketplace (Toniq)
10% to Nuance
89% split between the Limited Edition and writer - configured for the Limited Edition at setup.
An example helps illustrate the split with a Publication fee of 5%. An Article NFT of 100 ICP would be split as follows:
1 ICP to Toniq Marketplace
9.9 ICP to Nuance
4.5 ICP to the Limited Edition
84.6 ICP to the writer.
When an Article NFT is sold on the secondary market the funds from the sale with a Publication fee of 5% are split as follows:
1% to Toniq Marketplace
94% to the seller
4.5% to the publisher
